The Bright Green Team
Sharon Block, CEO
Sharon Block has been working in the field of building energy efficiency for over twenty years. As one of the pioneering women in green building, Sharon got her start working for a budding solar company in Oakland. Her commitment for the emerging field was solidified as she went on to work for an energy consulting and software company, then a mechanical engineering firm, before she eventually launched her own company, Block Energy Design in 1992. In 2010, she renamed the company Bright Green Strategies to better capture the scope of services the company now provides.
As CEO and senior green building consultant of Bright Green Strategies, Sharon works with diverse multi-party teams that often include architects, engineers, builders, and developers. She knows how to manage, coordinate, and lead teams toward meeting their sustainability goals. Leadership and educating others about codes and standards, building science, new products, as well as rebate incentive programs has always been a strength, and Sharon has spent many hours training building departments, designers and other consultants. In 1995, Sharon managed a project for the California Energy Commission to evaluate the California Building Industry’s Association (CBIA) energy efficiency training program for production builders. In 1996, she was a trainer to building departments through the California Building Officials (CALBO).
Sharon holds the following certifications: LEED AP + Homes, LEED for Homes Green Rater, GreenPoint Rater, HERS Rater and Certified Energy Plans Examiner for both Residential and Non-residential buildings. She was awarded the GreenPoint Rater of the year award for 2012 from Build It Green.
Peter Kennedy, Project Manager, Rater
Pete has worked in all aspects of the construction industry, from Architecture to Litigation, Neighborhood Planning to Installing Windows. Joining Bright Green Strategies in May 2010, he is inspired by the potential of Green Building to change how our industry does business. He is most interested in leaving behind the industry’s “less bad” mentality, driving residential construction to Zero impacts across the board, and exceeding that, imagining buildings that not only don’t harm our world, but actually make it better. Pete sees Green Building as constantly “in beta”, and continues to learn about the next thing on an ongoing basis. His goal is to help clients achieve their sustainability goals within budget, and then push them to go further on their next project.
Pete is an accomplished GreenPoint Rater, LEED for Homes Green Rater, and HERS Rater. He is passionate about modern architecture, politics, rec league softball, and is a committed fan of the Giants and 49ers. Pete volunteers his time as a City of Santa Cruz Planning Commissioner, member of the USGBC Monterey Bay Branch, and elected member of Santa Cruz’ Democratic Central Committee.
Andrew Williams, CEPE & HERS Rater
Andy began working for Bright Green Strategies in 2002. He originally was hired for his abilities as a draftsman, having advanced skills in AutoCAD, both in 2D design and in 3D modeling.
Andy quickly began training in building energy efficiency and became a California Energy Plans Examiner (CEPE) in 2007. He has completed thousands of Title 24 energy compliance calculations for homes, business and schools. In 2008, Andy became a certified HERS rater, and has been performing duct testing and other home performance tests for a number of our builder clients as well as on existing homes.
Andy continues to train in the building energy efficiency field. He lives in Felton, and is a volunteer director of multiple child and community outreach programs in the Santa Cruz County area.
Steven Davis, Green Building Specialist & HERS Rater
In 2010, Steve graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Construction Management and minor in Sustainable Environments. Throughout college he worked a variety of jobs to gain experience and understand construction from multiple perspectives. His work included structural engineering, forensic engineering, civil water project construction, and rough carpentry.
Immediately after graduation, Steve moved to South Korea where he taught English to elementary school students. He greatly enjoyed his time abroad. The following year, Steve worked for a nonprofit that provides home energy upgrades to low-income households in the Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Clara counties. He worked both in the office and field providing coordination and home inspections. He found the work very rewarding and felt privileged to give back to those in need from his community.
Now working for Bright Green Strategies, Steve provides his service as a Associate Project Manager and GreenPoint Rater. He is currently working towards his LEED Green Rater certificate. He finds his work very fulfilling as he daily applies building construction science with environmental stewardship. In his time off, Steve is most likely to be found surfing or rock climbing with friends.
Roseanne Prévost-Morgan, Project Coordinator
Roseanne has spent many years in the construction industry, as well as 14 years designing and building software for contractors. In 2006, she decided to try to find work which was closer to her passions; Environmental Conservation and Alternative Energy. She worked for a successful Solar PV contractor in Santa Cruz, where she was able to contribute her construction accounting and management skills, and at the same time gained a wealth of experience specific to the Solar PV industry. She managed Solar Interconnections and Incentives, including many New Solar Homes Program, “NSHP”, projects which became one of her specialties. During that time, she met and collaborated with Bright Green Strategies on a number of those projects.
Roseanne was very excited to join the team at Bright Green Strategies and is thrilled with the opportunity to learn more skills. Her other passions include birding, hiking, art, music, meditation, and most of all, enjoying her family.
